What is “Shomin No Aji” ? 2

Hi.
Today I want to explain meaning of “Shomin No Aji” (in Japanese:庶民の味).
I think “Shomin No Aji” means “Tastes for ordinally Japanese people” in English.
Shomin (in Japanese:庶民) means ordinally people or the (common) people.
Aji means taste.
Japanese people uses the phrase when they talk about food which is easy to get at grocery stores, and is not so expensive, and is also familiar tastes.
For example, there are two types of “Sushi” in Japan. Fist one is Japanese traditional style and basically expensive (you sometimes pay more than 200$ for one time dinner). Another one is relatively new style and enough cheap to eat your daily life (20$ is enough to enjoy), which is called Kaiten-zushi (回転寿司:means conveyor belt sushi). Hence, Kaiten-zushi can be called Shomin-no-aji, but we don’t call traditional-style-sushi Shomin-no-aji. (If I tell apart sushi more carefully, there are two styles of traditional style sushi, i.e., Nigiri (握り) and Makizushi (巻き寿司).)
In this blog, I will mainly introduce you Japanese food, culture and place which are (maybe) minor one for foreign people.
