Kushi-dango (串団子)

Food

Hi.
Wagashi is a representative food of Japan. It is a Japanese confectionery. When you search wagashi in the internet, you can find a lot of colorful small buns, jellies and cakes. Usually, they are on sale at the traditional Japanese style store, and it is not cheap. Instead, if you want to enjoy Japanese taste confectionery cheaply, I recommend you kushi-dango (串団子). Kushi-dango is based on three to four rice dumplings connected by a wood spit.
They are usually baked or coated by sweet paste like anko. You can easily get them in grocery store or convenience store. Most of the case, you can find three types of kushi-dango.
1: anko coated one (I think this is the most basic style of kushi-dango)
2: sauce coated one
3: colorful one (You can also enjoy this style by eye, not only by tongue)

Typical anko taste kushi-dango (串団子) sold in grocery store or convenience store. You can usually buy it by 1$.

I strongly recommend that you prepare green tea when you eat kushi-dango. Bitter tase of green tea matches well kushi-dango. Please be careful that kushi-dango has high calories (approximately 300-400kcal).
Bye.
